The Girl's Guide to Kicking your Career Into Gear
Valuable lessons, true stories, and tips for using what you've got (A Brain!) to make your work life work for you.
If you are a woman and serious about taking your career to the next level The Girl's Guide should be a staple in your purse, briefcase or backpack. This 218 page book is jam-packed from beginning to end with useful tips, interviews, examples and stories that can help any woman (and I would say, it has tips that could also help men) to elevate their careers.
The book is written by Caitlin Friedman and Kimberly Yorio, authors of The Girl's Guide to Starting Your Own Business, and The Girl's Guide to Being a Boss (Without Being a Bitch). The women have plenty of experience by themselves, having had a myriad of successful jobs/careers themselves, but they also pull in stories and interviews from other amazing women such as the co-founder of Flickr Caterina Fake, and Susan Heathfield, host of the About.com human resources site, just to name a couple.
A few things addressed in the book are stereotypes, how to best word your resume, how to sell yourself in 30 seconds or less, how to approach fear, how to best network, how to become great at public speaking... And the list of helpful tips doesn't stop there. I recommend for everyone to pick up this book.
Also, here is a video of Friedman and Yorio talking about the book. If you've read it or plan on reading it, what do you think?
